Dashew Offshore

Built for the Challenging Ocean

Dashew Offshore Shipyard, founded by Steve and Linda Dashew, became renowned for its groundbreaking FPB (Functional Power Boat) series, created for long-range cruising with rugged efficiency and safety as the core design principles. Originally, the Dashews were accomplished sailors who began designing sailboats in the 1970s with models like the Deerfoot and Sundeer series, known for their ability to be managed by a small crew over extensive ocean voyages. Transitioning to motor yachts, the Dashews launched the FPB series in 2005, challenging traditional yacht designs by introducing features focused on resilience and self-sufficiency rather than conventional luxury aesthetics.

Excellence in Robust Expedition Yacht Design

Founded by Steve and Linda Dashew, Dashew Offshore revolutionized the expedition yacht market with vessels that prioritize safety, fuel efficiency, and independence. Known for its FPB (Functional Power Boat) series, the brand created yachts built to endure and excel in remote and challenging conditions. Each yacht reflects Dashew Offshore’s commitment to robust engineering and functionality, designed for long-range exploration with minimal fuel consumption and maximum comfort. This legacy continues to inspire yachtsmen seeking dependable, owner-operated vessels crafted for true ocean-going adventure.

The Pioneering FPB Models

The FPB series includes notable models like Wind Horse, an 83-foot vessel that pioneered the FPB concept with its minimalistic, aluminum exterior and stability under challenging sea conditions. Designed for high efficiency and low fuel consumption, Wind Horse could cover 7,000 miles on its shakedown cruise, proving the FPB line’s capability for true exploration. The FPB 78 and FPB 97 models followed, each pushing the boundaries further. The FPB 97, named Iceberg, is the largest of the series, designed to be operated by just a couple, making it an ideal choice for owner-operated long-distance cruising

A Voyage that Endures

Although the Dashews retired in 2018, halting new FPB production, the fleet remains influential in expedition yacht design. Today, around a dozen FPBs are still active, collectively covering millions of nautical miles. Berthon International now oversees the FPB archives, supporting current owners with design resources and brokerage services. Dashew Offshore’s legacy endures, celebrated for engineering robust, self-reliant vessels that prioritize safety, comfort, and the ability to navigate remote, harsh environments
